Helen Thomas

I spent as many as eleven or twelve seconds yesterday afternoon  contemplating what the future would hold for newly-retired White House correspondent – and Hamas-talking point propogandist – Helen Thomas. Of course, at least five of those seconds were spent wondering what the hell I was doing wasting the other six on her. Still, it did briefly enter my mind.

As I heard the news that the matriarch of journalistic derangement was calling it quits following her spewing of the most disturbing drek to be heard publicly since Bob Dylan’s Christmas album, a part of me couldn’t help but wonder if it isn’t, in fact, best to have our dippy loons on the left doing what they do in the glow of the spotlight. After all, the best thing – the only thing – to come out of the Obama presidency has been the gift of exposure: unabashed, card-carrying, campus-nurtured, big-government unapologetic leftism on full display for all to see.

In that spirit, maybe having a world-class wacko-lefty moonbat center-stage is good for our side.

But what has been most striking about the media coverage of the entire Helen Thomas affair is that most of the focus has been on anti-Semitism. Very few have attacked this story based on the sheer stupidity of her claims. Indeed, she’s had a long, long career of foot-sucking ignorance that has been as embarrassing and disgusting as it has been amusing. But, if Helen Thomas is an anti-Semite – and who am I to say she’s not – I really couldn’t care less.

I mean that.

As a Jew, let me say clearly – emphatically – that I don’t care what’s in her heart. I really don’t. I care about her deeds. If her actions are anti-Semetic, then it matters to me a great deal. She’s always been a joke to me, in that “let’s visit Great Aunt Gladys at the asylum” sort of way. Whether or not she thinks all Jews need to “get the hell out of Palestine” – to quote her eloquent assessment of the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East – is irrelevant to me.

Instead, I’m more interested in the fact that the content and accuracy of Thomas’ comments on how the Jews are occupying land that is not rightfully theirs – and her comments on how to rectify the problem – are all but being ignored by the lamestream media. I’m not surprised, mind you … just fascinated. Where, pray tell, are all the wanna-be Woodward and Bernsteins out there? Where is Johnny Fact-Checker? And how is it that this “journalist” was able to keep her job for so many years when it’s clear she can’t even manage to get the most basic of information correct?

Helen Thomas is a colossally ill-informed, ignorant cartoon character, and unfortunately, not a lot of people seem to be touching on that.

THOMAS: Remember, these people (Palestinians) are occupied, and it’s their land. It’s not German. It’s not Poland.

REPORTER: So, where should they (Jews) go? What should they do?

THOMAS: They can go home.

REPORTER: Where’s home?

THOMAS: Poland. Germany.

REPORTER: So, you think Jews should go back to Poland and Germany?

THOMAS: And America and everywhere else.

Of course, the problem with the Helen Thomas Middle East Peace Plan is the pesky little fact that two million Israeli Jews are either descended from, or come directly from, Islamic countries, like Morocco, Egypt, Iraq and Yemen. And let’s not forget about the hundreds of thousand of Jews that came from the Soviet Union.  And Ethiopia.

Israel was not created as a result of the relocation of German and Polish Jews. Israel’s very being has nothing – repeat nothing – to do with Germany and Poland. If, as Thomas suggests, the Jews need to “go back home,” they would overwhelmingly have to “return” to despotic nations like Syria and Libya.

The modern Zionist movement began in the late 19th Century. From around 1880, Jews began migrating to “Palestine” – part of the Ottoman Empire – in earnest, and many began purchasing land there. (Keep in mind that from the time of Joshua, Jews have always lived in the land that is now Israel, and at no time was there ever an official nation called Palestine – ever). During the early years of the Zionist movement, no Arabs were kicked off their land, forced the leave, placed in exile, persecuted, victimized or cheated. Jews were legally – repeat legally – buying up parcels of land. (And remember that Jews were already living there, along with Arabs).

And it wasn’t as if prime real estate was being gobbled up by these relocating Jews. In those days, most of what is Israel today was devoid of population and vegetation.

In 1867, Mark Twain visited the Land of Milk and Honey and wrote:

A desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds… a silent mournful expanse…. a desolation…. we never saw a human being on the whole route…. hardly a tree or shrub anywhere. Even the olive tree and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil, had almost deserted the country.

The city of Jerusalem was a small and sparsely populated .

A fast walker could go outside the walls of Jerusalem and walk entirely around the city in an hour. I do not know how else to make one understand how small it is.”

The point that is lost on most is the reality that while Jews were migrating to the Holy Land in terrific numbers during that period – from 1918 to 1948 – the Arab population actually grew faster than the Jewish population.

At the time of the Balfour Declaration in 1917, there actually were Arab leaders willing to accept the existence of a Jewish State in “Palestine” if the rest of the Middle East could be placed under Arab control. However, Arabs in “Palestine” were vehemently against Jewish immigration and the existence of a Jewish State of any kind.

The modern Palestinian movement was born.

And when the British finally left in May, 1948 – and the tiny little partition that was alotted for the Jews declared themselves an independent nation – all of the Arab nations simultaneously attacked her. It was the Arabs who would not accept that in the vast expanse of the Middle East a small area could be designated as a Jewish State.

Israel miraculously defeated her Arab enemies – and have done so in every Arab-Israeli conflict since.

I’m sure these things simply slipped Thomas’ mind, constipated professional she is.

And I’m certain someone in the lamestream media would have pointed these things out at some point.

The subtitle to this unassuming little blog is “Combating Liberalism and Other Childish Notions.” I word it this way because I am of the mind that anything that is constituted to erode liberty, assail rugged individualism, increase government intrusion into the lives of its citizenry and attempt to legislate against the thoughts of its people must be fought. At the same time, any macro policy that is devised based on fanciful premises and emotion – the very foundation of modern liberalism – is, by definition, childish, and almost always ineffective.

Hence, the subtitle.

However, a more apropos subtitle might be “Exposing Liberalism For The Childish Notion It Is,” or “Dropping The Drawers Of Liberalism For The World To See” or “Aren’t Libs Dopey?” – although that last one might be a tad too Bill O’Riley.

In yet another example of how lefties are loathe to progress past the initial “Don’t It Feel Good” stage of policy creation to what the great Thomas Sowell calls second-stage thinking (i.e., asking “what happens next”), the case against Geert Wilders in Holland exemplifies perfectly why modern liberalism doesn’t work when it comes to a very specific group of people – namely, those who are alive.

Mr. Wilders is on trial in Amsterdam for offensive and prejudiced remarks against Islam. He is, in effect, on trial for Islamophobia. But the case, already absurd in that it is, on its surface, attempting to legislate what one man can legally hate, is evolving into a trial against the Quran itself – and that is not what the ever-tolerant, always open-minded, everyone-join-hands-and-say-howdy leftists had in mind.

The never-ending lefty push for utopia looks to be backfiring in a profound way.

Leon De Winter, in a Wall Street Journal article, writes:

The Amsterdam court trying the controversial Dutch politician is now preoccupied with the question of whether this book (the Quran), sacred to more than a billion believers, can be compared to one of the most vile publications in the history of Western civilization — Hitler’s “Mein Kampf.”

What could possibly go wrong?

In his writing and speeches, Mr. Wilders has found these two works to be similar in terms of their anti-Semitism and incitement to hatred, and has thus called for a publishing ban on the Quran similar to the one in place for “Mein Kampf.” This is what triggered Mr. Wilders’s prosecution for discriminatory and insulting remarks against Muslims and Islam. The Dutch politician, though, denies having insulted Muslims. He insists his focus is on radical Islam and the Quran, which he considers to be not only a religious text but also a political pamphlet encouraging Muslims to discriminate against and, if necessary, kill Jews, Christians, apostates and other unbelievers. That’s why Mr. Wilders claims the right to criticize and condemn Islam.

Following complaints brought by mostly Muslim and radical leftist activists, Amsterdam’s district attorney in 2008 at first found no legal basis for prosecuting Mr. Wilders. Prosecutors were forced to change course only after an activist appeals court last year ordered Mr. Wilders’s prosecution—basically condemning the politician before any trial could even begin and before Mr. Wilders had a chance to defend himself. The court’s unusual intervention illustrates the Dutch confusion about the conflict between two essential rights: the right to free speech and the right to protection from discrimination.

This is really quite a story – an important one.

What looms on the horizon is a genuine, bona fide, first-class outbreak of hostilities between the nation of Holland and the Muslim world.

Because Wilders’ legal team is calling on an impressive slate of expert witnesses to testify in this witless trial – including openly anti-Semitic, radical Islamists.

It’s a brilliant move by the defense.

After all, if a man is being put on trial for comparing Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” to the Quran, it must now be determined whether or not there is any truth in what he is alleging. The question, therefore, is: Is it unreasonable to comment on and compare the anti-Semitism of the two books?

That means, with the help of expert testimony from such radical Islamists as Mohammed Bouyeri (Theo van Gogh’s killer), and well-known anti-Semite Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, the Quran itself must take the stand.

Is this really the type of thing that should be pursued in a court of law in a modern, civilized society?

Mr. De Winter says that regardless of the trial’s outcome, Mr. Wilder’s will find himself in a good position:

According to polls, Mr. Wilders’s Freedom Party, a libertarian-conservative movement with populist tendencies, is currently the most popular political party in the Netherlands. If elections were held today, Mr. Wilders would be a serious contender for the position of prime minister. Mr. Wilders’s detractors are mistaken if they think a conviction would hurt him politically.

The trial is a win-win situation for him: If the court rules to restrict Mr. Wilders’s right to free speech, many Dutchmen will interpret this as an effort by the politically correct establishment to limit the growing strength of the Freedom Party, which would widen its appeal to many voters. If, on the other hand, the prosecution fails to prove that Mr. Wilders has purposely insulted Muslims because of their religion, Mr. Wilders’s views will be seen as vindicated. Again, he will gain politically.

The irony is … Muslim groups were not among those who brought Wilders to trial.

Wilders is being charged with Group Insult of Muslims, Fomenting to Hate and Discrimination Against Muslims Because of their Religion, Fomenting to Hate and Discrimination Against Non-Western Foreigners and/or Moroccans Because of their Race, and Incitement to Hatred Against Moroccans and Non-Western Immigrants

So, will radical Islamists in the Netherlands now be charged with similar charges when they spew anti-Semitic rhetoric? Or when the spout off with anti-Western sentiments? Or anti-Christian?

Why wasn’t Wilders also charged with Fomenting to Hate and Discrimination Against Haters of other Non-Aryan Races and Populations? (i.e., Naziphobia)

The very notion that a man in a modern European country can be tried for his dislike, disapproval, or hatred of any given religion is downright frightening.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

A tale of two speeches.

Yesterday at the United Nations, President Barack Obama – leader of the free world, Apologist-In-Chief – all but spit upon the notion of American exceptionalism with some of the most embarrassing, lily-livered, weak-kneed, touchy-feely palavar ever spoken by an American President while still in office. He stood up in front of the world, sounding more like the guest speaker at a “Get-In-Youch-With-Your-Inner-Self” encounter group and delivered hokey cliché after threadbare platitude, explaining to everyone (in that “I know better than everyone who preceded me” tone) that “No world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will succeed. No balance of power among nations will hold.” He also managed to grab the necks of one of our closest allies, Israel, and drag them to the bus depot, lay them out on the exit ramp, and hold her down while bus after bus rolled over her.

Rich Lowry of the National Review said Obama came across as a “gullible sap.”

I was thinking more along the lines of a tenderfooted, bait-taking, mollycoddling sucker, but I acquiesce to Lowry’s superior wordsmanship.

Contrast Obama’s nerveless blather to today’s speech given by Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu – dare I say, a real leader.

Said Netanyahu, in part, today:

For eight long years, Hamas fired rockets – fired those rockets from Gaza – on nearby Israeli citizens. Thousand of missiles, mortars, hurling down from the sky on schools, on homes, shopping centers, bus stops.

Year after year as these missiles were deliberately fired on our citizens, not one UN resolution was passed condemning those criminal attacks. We heard nothing, absolutely nothing, from the UN Human Rights Council – a misnamed institution if there ever was one.

In 2005, hoping to advance peace, Israel unilaterally withdrew from every inch of Gaza. It was very painful. We dismantled 21 settlements – really bedroom communities and farms. We uprooted over eight thousand Israelis – yanked them out from their homes. We did this because many in Israel believed that this would get peace.

Well, we didn’t get peace.

Instead, we got an Iranian-backed terror base fifty miles from Tel-Aviv.

Life in the Israeli towns and cities immediately next to Gaza became nothing less than a nightmare.

You see, the Hamas rocket launchers, and the rocket attacks, not only continued after we left, they actually increased dramatically. They increased ten-fold.

And again, the UN was silent. Absolutely silent.

He went on to commend those nations who had the good sense to walk out on yesterday’s speech (if you wish to call it that) by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who again went on to deny the Holocaust, among his other abominable cacklings.

But Netanyahu courageously and openly condemned the United Nations – in no uncertain terms – for allowing the despicable Iranian terrorist to be given the forum to espouse his hateful, destructive, threatening rhetoric in the first place.

Courage, indeed.

From Fox News:

Holding aloft evidence of Hitler’s Final Solution, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday railed against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his denial of the Holocaust and scolded the United Nations for allowing Ahmadinejad to speak during its opening session of the 64th U.N. General Assembly.

With detailed reminders in hand of the war that sent 6 million Jews to their deaths in concentration camps, including construction blueprints for Auschwitz, Netanyahu took his turn at the dais to recall the agreement within the world body to create the Jewish state and express astonishment at what he witnessed a day earlier in that organization’s great hall.

He commended those who boycotted Ahmadinejad’s speech, but condemned those who allowed it.

“To those who gave this Holocaust denier a hearing, I say on behalf of my people. … Have you no shame? Have you no decency?” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu also scolded the United Nations for giving the Iranian president “legitimacy” just six decades after the Holocaust. Ahmadinejad addressed the body Wednesday, and in the run-up to the session repeated his belief that the Holocaust is a myth.

“What a disgrace,” Netanyahu said. “What a mockery of the charter of the United Nations.”

Compare and contrast the words and sentiments of Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu.

Compare and contrast strength to acquiescence. Compare one who echoes the voices of Churchill and Reagan to one that echoes the sentiments of fragility and defeat. Compare one who understands that it is our moral obligation to stand between evil and the innocent to one who looks to level the playing field between the evil and innocent.

Bravo Benjamin Netanyahu – Prime Minister of a tiny little country that sits more alone today than it has in quite a while.

Mary Robinson

Mary Robinson

Why not just come out and spit on a map of Israel for the cameras? Or offer an obscene finger gesture?

Or better yet, why not just have another photograph circulated across the globe featuring him showing off the bottom of a different pair of shoes?

A “Screw You Israel” t-shirt would have done the trick.

So many possibilities.

For someone who has said that the pomp and circumstance of the American Presidency isn’t quite his cup of tea, it’s interesting (and not particularly surprising) that President Obama has decided to use such a ceremonious occasion to take a steel-toe boot to the nether regions of the nation of Israel in awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the highest civilian award in this country – to someone like Mary Robinson.

She wasn’t just the first female President of Ireland, or the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (which in itself should have been enough to trigger a “Something’s fishy in Denmark” alarm), but an unmistaken, unabashed enemy of Israel and a supporter of Palestinian suicide bombings as a means to an end.

Let’s not forget that she was the heart and soul of the infamous Durban I human rights conference, a.k.a Anti-Semitism-Free-For-All ’01.

President Obama would have been better served choosing a blood blister or the second Darrin from Bewitched for the award.

Richard Beahr at the great American Thinker site writes:

This is like sticking a fork in the eye of a supporter of Israel. But I am sure the Jewish left will think nothing of it. Each time I see a foreign policy decision of this administration — on missile defense, disarmament, Israel, Honduras, on the Iranians crushing dissent to their fraudulent election, the question I now ask is this: If Hugo Chavez were the American President, would the action be any different?

Far more often than not, the answer is no. We now have Hugo Chavez running the foreign side, and Henry Waxman running the domestic agenda. Is this the change we can believe in? Our country is disappearing before our eyes, if they are open.

Tevi Troy at the National Review’s Corner adds:

Robinson’s record is well known to most Jews with even a passing familiarity with the Jewish media. It cannot be a surprise that honoring Robinson in this way would be anathema to the Jewish community. In addition, I know from having worked in the White House that these selections go through extremely careful vetting of public and non-public databases to make sure that they would not embarrass the president in any way.

If you are looking for more to smile about, be advised that Bishop Desmond Tutu – who, as Behar observes, is “the man who compares Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians to apartheid” – will also be receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Obama.

Among others receiving the honor is Senator Edward Kennedy from Massachusetts, responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne in 1969, as well as the Reverend Joseph Lowery.

You’ll recall Lowery delivered that inspiring Inaugural Day benediction asking us all to work for a day when blacks didn’t have to get in back, browns could stick around, and whites could embrace what is right.

I guess Keith Olbermann is next year.

medved on the air

Once a month on his outstanding radio program – coinciding with coming of the full moon – Michael Medved dedicates all three hours of his show to conspiracies. For me, his “Conspiracy Day” broadcasts are among the most entertaining in all of talk radio. (It’s doubtful I could handle a show fraught with conspiracy theories five days a week – nor could Medved, I suspect – but once a month seems to be just about right).

What makes “Conspiracy Day” so enjoyable is that the people who call into the program are not necessarily obvious crackpots – although Medved does get his fair share of moonbats. Rather, a good portion of the participants who chime in with theories of hidden forces that secretly run the world often sound perfectly reasonable and well-spoken – that is, until the conspiracy is revealed.

That’s when eyebrows start to rise and jaws begin to drop.

It is both funny and sad, and always engaging.

Sinister plots ranging from “the real agenda behind fluoridated water” to the idea that the “government was behind the September 11th attacks” are all proffered. You can bet your bottom dollar that on every show there will be at least a few calls touching upon conspiracies involving The Illuminati, Area 51, Skull and Bones, the North American Union and the Kennedy assassination.

One of the oft-broached conspiracy theories on Medved’s monthly excursion into clandestine plots and unsavory schemes is the one that suggests that “the Jews” really run the world – no one specifically, just “the Jews.”

From the banking world to manufacturing and industry, from the media to the government itself, “the Jews” are the real string pullers. Specifics may vary somewhat – whether “the Jews” are a group of bunker dwelling magnates somewhere in Europe, or a band of Zionists who operate a command center beneath a 7-11 in Wyoming – but the gist of the claim is generally the same.

“The Jews” secretly control the planet.

Proof that this theory is alive and well can be found in the comments made last week by life-long religious mentor (until recently) to the President of the United States, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Said Wright, as he expressed his aggravation at not being able to confer with Obama, “Them Jews aren’t going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter, that he’ll talk to me in five years when he’s a lame duck, or in eight years when he’s out of office.

Perhaps the Reverend was referring to David Axelrod, who is almost certainly being blamed by the ever-tolerant and fun-loving Wright for keeping the President from attending the World Conference on Racism in April.

As Aaron Goldstein at the Intellectual Conservative Blog writes:

“Ethic cleansing is going on in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing of the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don’t want Barack talking like that because that’s anti-Israel,” said Wright.

If the White House doesn’t want Obama “talking like that” then how does he explain the President’s stance on Israeli settlements? Does Wright think Obama traveled to Cairo without Axelrod’s knowledge? For Reverend Wright, all roads lead to hatred and hatred does not intersect with reasoned thinking.

Goldstein is right, of course.

I would also point out that the “crime against humaity” Wright meant to speak out against was “ethnic cleansing BY the Zionist, not OF the Zionist.”

There is a difference.

The wiping out OF Zionists would probably be less offensive to him than, say, the existence of white people or the United States of America … but I’d be guessing. My point is, if one is going to be blatantly and utterly incorrect, the least one can can do is speak properly. Being grammatically challenged and antisemitic are not necessarily synonymous.

With all of this in mind, I thought it would be appropriate to use this blog as a vehicle to finally come clean.

Perhaps against my better judgment – and certainly at the risk of angering my cohorts and colleagues – I think now may be the time to confess.

Indeed, All Jews know this is true, and it is time – in the spirit of full disclosure and with the goal of promoting harmony among all the people of the world – to tell it like it is.

As a Jew, I can do nothing else.

The fact of the matter is … there is a conspiracy, and all Jews are in on it. That includes me, my Rabbi, Jerry Seinfled, Sandy Koufax, all of us.

All of us.

Here goes … (cue the band).

To begin with, each and every one of us is on what we like to call The Mailing List.

We are all made aware of the events being orchestrated and controlled by “the Jews” and exactly how it is being done via daily updates. We are also apprised of how Jewish money is being spent, who is being bought and sold, what tactics are being used to control the non-Jew, who is complying, and who is resisting. We receive hard copy updates via “snail mail” disguised as a “coupon” envelope filled with useless coupons (which, you’ll notice, most people innocently throw away), as well as three daily electronic updates mailed from anonymous servers in Austria with the nondescript subject line, “Enhance Your Sexual Performance!”

It isn’t SPAM.

The word “Sexual” means “Jewish” in code.

For those in mixed marriages, note how often your household receives “reminder” notices from a dentist that neither you nor your spouse have ever seen, informing you that you are overdue for a checkup.

Throw them away if you will, but these cards are really code for “all things are proceeding as planned.”

All Jews (practicing and not) receive residual deposits in their bank accounts from either “H&K Home Products” or “Jackie’s Fabrics” on a monthly basis just for being “one of the gang.” Whenever another gentile falls in line somewhere, we all get a bonus that shows up on our bank statements as “Bank Fee Reversal.”

We also receive automatic discounts on Entenmann’s cakes, but that’s neither here nor there.

As many have suspected, Paul Wolfowitz himself mails out “Isn’t great to be a Jew” updates in the form of oil changing coupons that are always conveniently expired by the time they hit the mailbox.

It’s also true that every computer crash that occurs within the continental United States is personally supervised and executed by either Larry David or a luggage wholesaler out of Philadelphia called Shlomo.

There’s more, but I just haven’t the time nor server space to spare. (I have a “meeting” to go to this afternoon).

I think you get the idea.

It’s all true.

With every fiber of my being, I want to express my most sincere apologies to my brethren for “spilling the beans” on how things operate.

I especially want to apologize to Harry and Moshe – the two guys in Austria who have secretly run Planet Earth until now – for exposing the truth. I know Harry has been laid up in bed since he fell, but I want him to know that I will be around soon to explain things in person. (I will bring those danish you like with the raisins).

Please accept my apologies.

And to Moshe (if you’re reading this)… the pin for the new ATM card is L-A-T-K-E. There is a $2 billion a day spending limit, so be careful.

I should also apologize to the great Michael Medved, who will certainly be peturbed with me (along with everyone else) for shedding light on this conspiracy. Sadly, half of his “Conspiracy Day” fodder has been taken off the table thanks to me.

Luckily, there are enough people out there who believe President Bush, by remote control, guided the planes into the World Trade Center on 9/11 to keep the phone banks sizzling.

Again, I’m sorry.
